The Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC) will be hosting a seminar on May 17, 2017 at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville, NJ. The seminar will focus on operations, maintenance and design considerations for water distribution systems. As our nation’s water infrastructure continues to age, water professionals are continually faced with the challenge of operating, maintaining and designing distribution systems for the future. Proper O&M, best practices in design and new technologies give water professionals an opportunity to face the challenges of aging infrastructure in water distribution systems. The sessions for this seminar will feature presentations by Barb Martin of AWWA who will discuss the Partnership for Safe Water Tools for Distribution System Optimization; Joe Jasinski from Utility Services and Ladislao Monterrosa from Middlesex Water Company will discuss using ice pigging to clean water mains; John Marciszewski with Echologics will discuss modern leak detection technology; Bill Richardson, Jr. will discuss valve maintenance and exercise programs; and Brian Branch will discuss advances in tank mixing technology and chemical treatment for distribution system water quality. The seminar will also feature a short workshop to examine different challenges that may be faced by a water professional who is operating, maintaining or designing water distribution systems.

Attendees will earn a total of 5 TCHs and 5 PDHs which can be applied toward satisfying the professional education requirements for New Jersey Treatment (T) and Distribution (W) licensed operators and NJ & NY PE license renewal.
